How many parks does Punta Gorda, Florida have?
According to a quick Google search, the area north of Fort Myers in Charlotte County has 19 parks.
How about a better question?
How many kid-tested, kid-approved parks does Punta Gorda have?
We recently visited Babcock Ranch’s The Pkwy, a string of six new parks covering 313 acres along Babcock Trail Road in MidTown (phase two of construction).
Like any politician worth their salt, we decided to listen to the constituents and get the opinion of two third-graders who told us what was 6-7 (don’t ask) and what was legitimately cool in the eyes of an eight-year-old.
Isabella and Paul are residents of Babcock Ranch and our Punta Gorda parks focus group.
Bluebird Park

It has grassy mounds and brand-spankin’ new Bluebird-themed playground equipment.
Paul’s Score: 9/10
“It’s really cool,” he said. “I love nature. I love bluebirds and they have a huge bluebird egg. It’s just amazing!”
Isabella’s Score: 6/10
“No one’s really there and, at night, there’s just babies and toddlers,” she argued. “The good thing I like is there is nature around it and sometimes I get to be by myself and not bothered by my friends.”
Our Verdict: If you’re a family with young, young children, Bluebird is your best bet.
Hillcrest Park

Climb up a hill and surf down on a cardboard sled or the seat of your pants. The parents can take in the sights of Babcock Ranch from a two-story observation tower.
Isabella’s Score: 10/10
“You get to run up the hill and you get to slide down and you get to go crazy,” she said passionately. “Like, you get to go wheeeeew! And if you have, like, crazy friends that love to play with you, that’s the perfect place.”
Paul’s Score: 6-7/10
“So basically, I mean, you can get really injured, so expect to end up in the hospital,” he countered. “I hurt my foot one time there. It’s not that bad.”
Our verdict: Hillcrest is THE spot for daredevil kids.
The Lagoon

Catch-and-release fishing in a 3.3-acre lake.
Paul’s Score: 9.9/10
“I certainly love fishing, but it’s really new, so there’s only tiny, baby fish,” he said.
Paul visits The Lagoon with his friend on an electric scooter. Isabella wasn’t feeling it at this spot on The Pkwy.
Her Score: 0/10
“All you do is sit there,” she protested. “It’s boring. I want to catch a cool fish. It’s lame. But if they had fish — 10/10.”
Our verdict: If you have older kids, leave them at another park and enjoy a day of angling.
Explorers Park

An all-inclusive park with sensory areas and giant gator head, partly funded by a $1.5 million state grant.
Isabella’s Score: 8.9/10
“You get to explore but the bad thing is there aren’t really people,” she says. “Palmetto has a thousand kids there. But here, there’s not really kids. There’s just young kids again.”
Paul’s Score: 9.9/10
“I disagree with Isabella,” he counters. “Every time I come here, there’s almost–every day–big kids that come. I come a lot to this park.”
Our verdict: Explorers Park—a park for EVERYBODY.
Palmetto Park

The crown jewel of The Pkwy. Roofed full-length basketball court. Splash pad for the kneebiters. Playground and open field for tossing the Frisbee or soccer.
Paul’s Score: 9.9/10
“I just like it,” he approves. “It’s just so much fun!”
Isabella’s Score: Infinity/10
“It’s sooooo perfect,” she says excitedly. “It’s inspired by a tree house. I love tree houses. It has a splash pad to walk. It has a big field where you can like go crazy with your friends.”
Our verdict: If you have a family with kids of varied ages, Palmetto is your best one-fit-all solution.

The Pkwy in Babcock Ranch is super new and free.
We didn’t review it, but there is also a Bark Park where Fido and friends can run amok unchained.
The parks are open to everyone, not just Babcock residents. You can spend a day visiting all the parks, or just knock off a couple of hours at one of them.
Final Words From Our Punta Gorda Parks Focus Group

We’d like to include some parting words from our adorable third graders who you might just see if you venture to Babcock Ranch to try out these new family-friendly recreational spots.
“I’m Isabella, a girl that loves soccer and I’m, like, a pro—a legendary hacker—at goalie, because, like, yeahhhh!”
“Until next time, I’m Paul, the nerd. I hope everybody likes [the post]. Peace out!”

Greg Healing: All right, so picture this. Instead of a subdivision where you drive 20 minutes just to find a patch of grass, you step outside and bam. You’re instantly connected to hundreds of acres dedicated to trails, lakes, sports field, playgrounds, dog parks, much, much more. In this video, we’re going to give you a little bit of a highlight on the parkway system at Babcock Ranch. It’s the community’s park system that’s not just about green space, but it’s about creating a lifestyle where you won’t find anywhere else in Southwest Florida. Stay tuned for our next lifestyle video. That one’s going to highlight Babcock Ranch’s preserved land and lifestyle.

What’s the parkway all about? It’s not just a park. It’s a connected park system. Over 300 acres are weaving through multiple neighborhoods, linking them together by walking trails, biking paths, and yes, room for your golf carts. Think of it like a green superhighway that turns your neighborhood into an outdoor playground. The best part, you don’t even need to load up the car. It’s all right here, integrated into this beautiful community. All right, let’s dive deeper into the six parks that make up the parkway because each one really has its own flavor, and trust me, there’s something here for everyone.
Bluebird Park is your classic family hub. We’re talking playgrounds for the kids, shaded picnic pavilions, open lawns for tossing a football or soccer ball, and spots for weekend birthday parties. If you’ve got young kids or grandkids, this is the park that you’re going to find yourself at a few times a week. Now, Hillcrest Park is all about wide open fun. Picture rolling greens, walking trails, and a towering lookout with amazing views. It feels like one giant backyard where everyone can come together. Kids especially love it here, whether they’re sliding down the big hill on a cardboard or plastic saucers or racing down the oversized slides that are always ahead.
Now the lagoon, this is where you hit pause and just soak it all in. Toss a line off the dock and see what’s biting, wander the shoreline trails as the sun goes down, or just kick back on a bench and watch all that water shimmer. It’s like having your own little fishing hole and sunset hangout right in your neighborhood. Explorers Park is designed for everyone, from inclusive play structures to adventure equipment and a farm store. Every feature is built to spark creativity and invite kids of all abilities to join in the fun. It’s the kind of place where energy gets burned, imaginations run wild, and no one really feels left out. Don’t be surprised when it becomes the go-to spot after school.
Of course, we can’t forget Bark Park. This is a dedicated space for our pups to just run, play fetch, and meet their furry neighbors. It’s fully fenced, it has shaded benches for owners, and trust me, it doubles as a social hub for dog lovers. Palmetto Park is where the action comes alive. Wide open greens make the perfect spot for a soccer game, flag football, or just tossing the frisbee around. Add in the massive playground with the towering slides, splash pad, and all this massive green space is where the athletic heartbeat of the parkway comes alive. This is probably my kid’s favorite park. That’s the parkway in a nutshell.
Six parks, each with its own personality, all connected by trails, lakes, and green space. Whether you’re a young family, empty-nester, dog owner, or just someone that loves the outdoors, there’s a park here that feels like it was all designed just for you. One of the coolest things about the parkway is the connectivity. You can hop on your golf cart in Crescent Lakes, and you can end up at any one of the parks you choose without ever even touching a busy road. This isn’t just convenient. It makes the outdoors a daily part of your lifestyle. You want to walk the dog, evening stroll, meet neighbors for a pickup basketball game, it’s all stitched together through the parkway.
Here’s what makes this different from your average Florida subdivision. Most places build first and then scramble to add a park or two here and there. At Babcock Ranch, it’s just the opposite. The planners design nature first. They preserve 80% to 90% of the land just for open spaces, lakes, green corridors. That means when you move here, you’re not just boxed in. You’re part of something bigger, something sustainable.
Funny story. I’ve had clients tell me that they fell in love with Babcock Ranch before ever even touring a model home, just from seeing the parkway and the outdoor lifestyle. Now that’s how powerful this setup is. Now let’s talk real estate for a second. While no homes actually back up directly to the parkway system, buyers love that they can hop on the nature trails from anywhere and be connected to the parks, open spaces, or amenities in minutes. That walkability and easy access to outdoor living is a huge lifestyle win. Lifestyle sells. Whether it’s a villa or a single family home nearby, proximity to the parkway is a hidden gem that people don’t always realize until they’re actually here in person. This is just the beginning.
The parkway is part of a much bigger vision for Babcock Ranch. More connections, more green spaces, and even larger amenities centers are tying into the system. Now as the community continues to grow, the parkway is going to be the backbone of outdoor life here. It’s not just a perk. It’s the kind of feature that makes Babcock Ranch stand out nationwide. Whether you’re walking the dog at Bark Park or hitting the splash pad in Palmetto or just taking a sunset stroll around the lagoon, the parkway is where neighbors meet and memories are always made.
